HISTORY
Inspired by the back-to-the-basics approach of the Foxfire books, Brian Blancett sought out Peter Gott, one of the nation’s top hand-hewn log cabin builders, and began a two-year apprenticeship in the centuries-old Appalachian-style of building. He then returned to the Northwest Georgia mountains and built a traditional two-story hand-hewn log home where he still lives. In 1994 Brian established a log home building business with an insistence on authenticity and craftsmanship. Today that craftsmanship tradition continues along with the goal of incorporating modern amenities, as desired by the customer, without compromising the integrity of the age-old Appalachian style.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
Our Appalachian style log homes are built using time honored tools and techniques combined with modern tools and technologies. We feature naturally contoured logs, tight fitting half-dovetailed corners,hand-hewn logs and beams.
The difference begins at the sawmill where we saw our logs on only two sides
leaving the tops and bottoms untouched. This retains the natural crown and taper of the tree as well as the beautiful knot contours, with no two logs having the same shape. The result is a log that has a more natural tree-like shape rather than a square beam or mechanically manufactured log.
Once your new log home is erected, the overall look is one with more width variation in the logs and chinking gaps, creating a unique one of a kind log home with a traditional natural appearance.
Since each log home is hand crafted with a commitment to quality , we cannot mass produce your log home. Each home is a one of a kind work of art. Therefore we encourage you to plan ahead.
